Peripheral Nerve Regeneration Genes

A study on peripheral nerve regeneration conducted using rats.

Context of the Study

This project aims to analyze the gene expression differnces in rats after certain time intervals after injury. The injuries that are being studied are to peripheral nerves as they have been seen to have the ability to self regination.

Why is this important?

Nerve regeneration in a large capacity would be an incredible feat. While the main pathways examined in this study are peripheral and not part of a central nerve group like the spinal cord, it could still be a great help in learning the best ways to promote nerve regeneration. Any insight into helping these pathways propagate will be of great value in treating nerve damage—from diabetic neuropathy to potentially aiding in spinal cord injuries. The impact of this kind of research isn’t limited to high-tier injuries but could benefit anyone suffering from discomfort caused by nerve pain.
