Peripheral Nerve Regeneration Genes

A study on peripheral nerve regeneration conducted using rats.

Context of the Study

This project aims to analyze the gene expression differnces in rats after certain time intervals after injury. The injuries that are being studied are to peripheral nerves as they have been seen to have the ability to self regination.

Why is this important?

Nerve regeneration would be an incredible feat to achieve and studying these pathways will hopefully allow for better understanding that could lead to a breakthrough. The main pathways examined in this study are peripheral and not part of the a central nerve group. Although, this study looks at the peripheral nerves it can still provide insight. The value of learing how to upregulate nerve regeneration can help those that suffer diabetic nerve pain, chronic pain, and may have the potential to aid in healing spinal cord injuries. The impact of this kind of research isn’t limited to high-tier injuries but could benefit anyone suffering from discomfort caused by nerve pain.
